Embryo to Blastocyst
After the IVF/ICSI is done inside the IVF laboratory where the Wife oocyte injected with Husband sperm, it is kept in a dish along with the fluids (food for cells) inside an incubator (a machine which mimics the womb temperature & environment) generally the oocyte fused with sperm is kept for 2 to 3 days and in this time span it develops into an embryo and the same is transferred to the womb.
But in blastocyst culture the embryo is kept for 5 days inside the incubator along with fluids (food for embryo) & some intervention from the embryologist & it develops into a blastocyst.
Blastocyst formation depends upon various conditions, but mainly it depends upon laboratory quality conditions. A good quality laboratory will form a viable & healthy blastocyst. A blastocyst has much higher chance of survival & implantation inside the womb and better chance of achieving pregnancy.
