On the same day as egg retrieval, the male partner will provide a semen sample. If the male partner is unable to produce sperm naturally, sperm can be retrieved from the testicles or epididymis using surgical procedures.
4. Fertilization:
The eggs and sperm are combined in the laboratory to create embryos. Fertilization can occur naturally or with the help of a procedure called intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).
5. Embryo culture:
The embryos are then cultured in the laboratory for 3-5 days. During this time, the embryos develop and divide.
6. Embryo transfer:
One or more embryos are then transferred to the uterus. The embryo transfer procedure is painless and takes about 10 minutes.
7. Pregnancy test:
Two weeks after the embryo transfer, a pregnancy test is performed to see if the IVF treatment has been successful.
